Hi, everybody.
I just heard you live in Grenaa. That’s perfect because I’m planning a trip to your place and need some help for my trip. I need to book a hotel, but I’m from a developing country, so our money is devalued in relation to yours. So, I couldn’t be in a very fancy hotel. Just a decent one. Also, as I’m attending a convention there, I’ll spend two days after the seminar to get to know your city. Could you give me some advice on what to visit, restaurants to go, and typical food that I should try?
Now, you must be wondering who I am, right? What about a guessing game?
As I told you, I’m from a developing country surrounded by Spanish speaking people. However, I do not speak Spanish!
In my country, in general, people are very friendly and love to dance. Can you imagine the type of traditional dance there?
I just moved from my country to the US. Now, I’m living on the southernmost island in the USA, in Florida. Have you ever heard about this city? It’s very popular and people from all over come here for some fun.
I have two kids, Caio (4) and Dudu, short for Eduardo (6). How old do you think I am?
I love to be around people and help them. So, my profession is a very dynamic one. I work a lot during the day and, many times, at night. My job is never-ending. It demands lots of preparation. English is essential for my job. What do I do?
Well, I hope to hear from you soon with your plans for my trip and I want to see how much you can guess about me!
Tchau,
Your Mystery Guest

Hi Mystery Guest
We think that you perhaps are a very nice person, but we need to know a little more. Where do you come from originally, we have guessed on Brasil and Samba as your traditional dance. We have also estimated your age to 35 years and that you are a female.
We have been discussing if you are married. We think you are, since you have 2 children and work at both days and nights. We think your kids are nice and well-behaved. Do you have someone to look after them?
What is by the way your full name? We are calling you Rosalina.
Hope to hear from you soon.
Best wishes from Bente and Birthe

Dear Bente and Birthe,
Great to hear from you! And I’m not going to reveal myself as I heard that you have other classmates that will also try to find out more about me. Well, I just loved the name you gave to me. It’s not a common name at the place I come from, but it sounds strong. Now, I’m kind of a curious person and was wondering…What made you think I was a woman? Why Brazil?
How about my profession? What do you think I do to work so much and still have so much fun?
I’m still waiting for your suggestions on hotels and places to go in your town. Could you describe it for me? Maybe some photos? Oh, I’d love that…
I can show you some of mine later on! It’s still a surprise!

Hi Mystery guest.
Sorry about the name and that we thought you was a woman.
I think your profession is teacher like Anne Fox?
If not Brazil – then you come from Portugal?

Hi Mystery Guest
I can reccomand the Youth Hostel. It´s not fancy but very cheep. If you want to eat Danish food you have to go to the restaurant called Crone by the harbour. Here you can have an Open Sandwich wich is a piece of bread with eg salat, meat and pickles or other fine vegetables.
If you got the time, you have to visit our beautiful beach and of corse the forest to wich you will be a neighbour if you choose to live at the Youth Hostel
I think you live in LA and that you are some kind of singer, dancer or actor. Maybe you have lived in Cuba before you came to LA
I look forward to hear from you.
Kind regards Anette

Dear Bente,
You don’t have to apologize! I like playing games! And I use them a lot in my profession. Uhmmm, a teacher like Anne Fox? Kind of hard! Because she’s unique! Anyhow, you’re right! I AM a teacher, but Anette, you’re not totally wrong about my profession because as a teacher I have to be an actor, singer, dancer…I try to do all kinds of things to help my students learn, no matter what! In some time, I can show you some crazy photos I have and what I’ve done in class!
Bente, I loved the hotel you suggested for my stay in Greena. Annete, the Youth Hotel is for sure a cheap option. My question for you two is: how much would it cost the night in each of them? In terms of location, which do you think is the best?
Anette, you mentioned beaches…I love going to the beach! In my country, beaches are very popular and women generally wear tiny bikinis for the European standards! So, which country are we talking about???
Also, I was curious about your food…Anette, you mentioned an Open Sandwich. Is it a traditional dish from your country? Which others would you suggest? I’m very curious about it as I’m into learning about gastronomy.
Hope to hear more from you, your city, customs and traditions! And I’d LOVE to see your photos!

Dear Rosalina
The country with women in tiny bikinis must be Brazil.
The Open Sandwich is a traditional dish in Denmark. We often enjoy a cold beer and a “snaps” to the Open Sandwich. A “snaps” is a traditional danish drink – a very strong one served cold and in a little glas.
In Denmark we also eat a lot of potatoes. Cooked or fried in the oven or in a pan. With the potatoes you can eat “frikadeller” wich is some kind of large meatballs fried in a pan. On top we like to cover with a lot of braun sauce.
I think it´s very difficult to find out who you are. Could you tell a little bit more about your self please?
Kind regards Anette

Dear Anette,
I can’t deny it now!!! Yes, the girls in tiny bikinis, famous all over, you’re right and Bente & Birthe were also right from the beginning, Brazil is my country! I’m a very proud Brazilian. Although it’s a country of many contrasts, many social and political problems, I just love it. There are some incredible people there, I really enjoy our lifestyle, nature is magnificent, the beaches are just amazing! I really miss it. Bente and Birthe also mentioned samba as being a traditional dance in Brazil. True! But we have many other dances from regional traditions, like Axé in Bahia, Frevo in Pernambuco (in the northeast of Brazil), Bumba-meu-Boi in Maranhão (in the north), among many others. Of course, samba is more famous and foreigners relate Samba to Brazil because of the carnival images that are broadcasted throughout the world.
As I mentioned on my first post, “Now, I’m living on the southernmost island in the USA, in Florida. Have you ever heard about this city? It’s very popular and people from all over come here for some fun.” Can you guess the name of this Island in the US, which is just 90 miles from Cuba?
Dear Anette, don’t get anxious about my identity. Soon I’ll reveal myself!
By the way, I loved your description of the typical food in Denmark. I think I’d like to try some beer or “snaps” with your Open Sandwich. And I love potatoes, so I won’t starve when I visit Greena! Do you like to cook? Could you send me any recipes so that I could try to make some of your traditional dishes here? How about the brown sauce you mentioned that you use on the meatballs? What is it made of?
Hoping to learn much more with you and your very interesting culture!

Dear Rosalina!
It’s so nice to hear from you again. Please tell us your right name.
I’m glad that you like the hotel I have recomanded. If Anette cook diner for you – I think it’s okay to stay at the Helnan Marina Hotel here in Grenaa. Because you have only 100 m to the beach. 50 m to the forest and 1 km to the shops. There is 2 km to our course center CV2.
A hotel rum costs 595,00 D.kr for one night – per person. If you want a sinkel rum the price will be 250,00 D.kr extra.
Near the hotel we have the Kattegat Center – the link is http://www.kattegatcenter.dk. If you want to see the center we have at card you can have – so the visit will be free for you.
Hope to hear from you again.
Regards Bente

Dear Bente,
Cool off!!! Soon I’ll reveal myself, and I hope you don’t get disappointed…So much expectation makes our imagination fertile. I’m just an ordinary Brazilian.
I’d like to thank you for taking your time and telling me more about your city. The information you provide is always helpful. I tried to access the page of Kattegat Center, but couldn’t. And I’m glad to know you can help me with your card!
You mentioned 595 D. kr for the hotel per night. Now what would be the conversion for dollars so that I could have a better idea of the price? So, if I want a single room I have to add 250 more??? I’d better find someone to share a room with me!
So, I was wondering if you could take some photos of Greena to show me? Is it possible? I promise to show some of mine soon!

Dear Bente,
As always I have to thank you for so much precious information and cultural background.
As for the hotel, it is certainly a fair price and considering that breakfast is included, even better! Now, what would be a traditional breakfast for you in Denmark? You know, this is something I really miss now that I’m living in the US…In Brazil, we used to have fresh, crunchy French bread almost every morning, but here not! I miss that bread that we would get at the bakery nearby and butter would melt inside it…Here in the US they love to eat sweet things in the morning, like blueberry muphins or scones, or that sandwich bread. It is definitely not as good as in Brazil! Besides, we are used to eating lots of fruits and natural juice in the morning. Well, here the fruits are not so tasty and they are way too expensive!
You mentioned the newborn princess. No, I haven’t heard about her, but I have to confess that lately I’m soooo busy that it’s been hard to keep up with the news and in the US they don’t seem much interested in international news. Could you tell me more about her? It’s interesting to learn about a totally different political and social system from mine.
I do hope Anne can help you to upload some photos of Greena and you all. I’d love to see you all!
Talk to you later and waiting for more!
